DANIEL ZAMORA

It is with the deepest adoration and sadness that I announce the passing of my first playmate, the blueprint of my essence, the laughter in my soul. My brother, Daniel Zamora, championed a battle with brain cancer for the last 3 years, never dimming his light or his ability to bring smiles to his family, friends, strangers and the countless hospital staff he engaged with along this journey.

On the first day of summer and the longest day of the year, my brother assumed his next role — a symbol. Today and onward he will continue to be the twinkle in my eye, the half-full glass on my hardest days, the motivation behind my art and the loving encouragement to share myself fully with the world. I am my brother’s biggest fan and he was mine. This knowing gives me strength to live even more fully in his honor.

Denny was the defining teacher, philosopher and comedian in my life. He was also a master alchemist, creating joy or jokes out of even the darkest of times. Senseless, unjustifiable tragedy is not the narrative he would want me to succumb to. For him, I choose to do what he did best — subvert the obvious narrative and create my own meaning instead. For him, I choose to understand this experience as a testament to the greatest love of my life. My brother’s passing is not an ending, it is the beginning of a legacy of love and laughter that transcends time, space and life itself.
